Brussels International Center at the 59th Session of the Human Rights Council

Rooted in our deep commitment to human rights, with a special focus on developments in the Middle East, the Brussels International Center (BIC) has been actively engaged in the 59th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (16 June – 9 July 2025).

Our Team attended key proceedings, including the Interactive Dialogue on the Freedom of Expression and the Informal Consultations on the Draft Resolution on Accelerating Efforts to Eliminate All Forms of Violence Against Women and Girls. Throughout these engagements, we sought to bring nuance to the discussions and worked closely with diverse stakeholders to contribute to the development of effective, preventive mechanisms aimed at protecting journalists, women, and human rights defenders worldwide with a particular emphasis on the urgent situation in Gaza.

In parallel, BIC has actively participated in a range of side events and dialogues concerning the ongoing crises in Sudan and Palestine. As humanitarian conditions in both regions continue to deteriorate at an alarming pace, we underscored the critical need for an immediate and sustained ceasefire, and reiterated our call for enhanced humanitarian access and international accountability.

Through these efforts, the Brussels International Center reaffirms its dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices and advocating for principled, inclusive, and rights-based international responses.
