BIC's Statement on EU-Israel Agreement
Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 21st, Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez announced his Foreign Minister will pitch the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement at the Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg. More than a million European citizens and 350 High EU representatives, including former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, have already called for its suspension.
For this, a qualified majority of Member States is required: at least 55% of the States representing 65% of the EU's population. The challenge is clear: to obtain the support of Germany, Italy, and France.
The Brussels International Center (BIC) calls for this initiative to be endorsed without delay and urges Member States – particularly Germany, Italy, and France – to back the suspension and align the EU’s external action with its legal obligations under international law, including the human rights clause of the EU–Israel Association Agreement.
