10th Commemoration of the Brussels Terrorist Attacks

BRUSSELS, MARCH 18, 2026

A decade after the tragic terrorist attacks that profoundly impacted Brussels and the entire international community, the Brussels International Centre (BIC), with the strong support of Honourable Koen Metsu, will host a commemorative event at the Chamber of Representatives next Friday, March 20, 2026.

Entitled “Memory, National Solidarity, and Democratic Resilience in the Face of Terrorism,” the gathering serves as a solemn tribute and a reaffirmation of democratic values in the beating heart of Belgian institutions. Choosing the Parliament underscores the critical importance of parliamentary vigilance in combating radicalization and protecting fundamental freedoms. The Heart of the Event: The Voice and Courage of the Victims

The core program honors those who experienced the horror first-hand. The BIC centers stories of survival and the extraordinary fortitude of direct witnesses, transforming their sacrifice into an active memory. A highly anticipated moment will be the powerful testimony of Karen Northshield, severely injured at Zaventem airport, whose healing journey remains a global symbol of resilience. Alongside her, Aristide Melissas will provide a profound reflection on the human and social impact of terrorism. In a session moderated by Julien De Wit, these voices will transmit a message of peace, dignity, and tireless democratic vigilance to new generations.
The commemorative event gathers approximately 85 guests, including victims' associations, experts, and international partners. The institutional opening by U.S. Ambassador H.E. Bill White and Hon. Koen Metsu will reiterate the critical need for a national solidarity that transcends any linguistic or cultural barrier.
Beginning at 10:30 AM with official tributes, the day concludes at 1:30 PM with a dialogue session.
