BIC reacts to the Military coup in Sudan
The BIC is concerned with the unfolding events in Sudan and condemns the military coup taking place there. The actions of the military in their removal of Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok's transitional government is a significant blow to the fragile Sudanese democracy that has been tentatively developing following the removal of former President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

On the 22nd September 2021, Tunisian president Kais Saied reinforced his one-man rule following the already consequential decisions taken on July 25. Amongst the measures published in the Official Journal are the following:
Tunisia: Authoritarian Downfall or Democratic Rebirth?
In the night of the 25th of July, Tunisia’s president, Kais Saied, announced unprecedented measures that attracted worldwide attention and, perhaps, drastically changed the course of the country’s post-2011 transition. Saied, in a personal interpretation of Article 80 of the constitution, froze the parliament, lifted its immunity, sacked the Head of Government, and announced a 30-day transition where he will essentially oversee all three powers.
BIC Reacts to latest political developments in Tunisia
Tunisian President Kais Saied dismissed the country’s Prime Minister and parliament in the early hours of Monday 26 July 2021 in a move that some critics have labelled a ‘coup’. The action follows months of political deadlock, after the most recent parliamentary elections failed to yield a majority, which was exacerbated by sharp criticisms of the country’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. President Saied stated that the action was taken for “social peace… and until we can save the State”.
