The Brussels International Center is joining forces with EUObserver in the creation of an Africa Section, set to be fully implemented as of April 2023. The project aims to refocus the conversation on the EU-Africa strategic partnership, one year after the EU-AU summit took place in Brussels. The new Africa section will highlight different opportunities and challenges in Africa through the eyes of a variety of researchers and analysts based in Europe and Africa. It will attempt to reshape the way in which the EU has based its approach towards countries in Africa and advocate for a more equal and fair strategic partnership.

"We are delighted to partner with EUObserver to launch this new Africa Section," said Fernando Aguiar, BIC Senior Advisor. "It is our goal to provide readers with the latest information on EU-Africa affairs and to promote a greater understanding between the two continents".

The Africa Section will feature in-depth articles on key Africa topics and current events, as well as interviews with African leaders and experts. Yasmine Akrimi, BIC Africa Analyst, said "It is crucial for EU-AU relationships to move beyond the colonial hangover. One way to do this is to decentralise the way we talk about Africa, which this project allows through giving a platform to Africans to talk about issues that matter to them. Such an initiavite is paramount to addressing the continent in its complexity and diversity."

The EUObserver is one of the leading not-for-profit, independent media outlet established in Brussels in 2000. Its goal is to to fill the gap by reporting on how decisions are made in the European Union, and by giving people the possibility of making their voice heard within the European institutions. The BIC is pleased to be part of such a relevant, thought-provoking project and looks forward to starting this partnership.
