From 12 to 14 May 2020, the Brussels International Center collaborated with Friends of Europe in a three-day virtual global brainstorm on international security challenges, hosted by IBM and coordinated by The Partnership for Peace Consortium.

Sinds het uitbreken van het nieuwe Coronavirus in de stad Wuhan in  China ,  eind december 2019 ; zijn de gesprekken en debatten over het coronavirus wereldwijd en ook hier bij ons in België ,  niet meer weg te denken . Het gaat  zelfs zover ,  dat het impact ( Sociaal-economisch , Fysisch –Psychisch en ja zelfs Menselijk en Religieus ) overweldigend is.

Human rights violations have been ongoing in Turkey for decades, bolstered through an unjust legal system that results in the systemic grievances that the EU has failed to properly address. This report finds that these violations disproportionately impact artists, academics, lawyers and activists who express opposition against the regime.

Protests in Iran: a Desperate Call for Domestic Reform

At a Glance:

The Islamic Republic is not immune to social unrests. Since 2017 onward, Iran has been the theatre of several spontaneous protests and riots, illustrating the consequences of complex structural deficiencies. Despite the regime’s concerted efforts to forcefully contain the protests, often through repression or intimidation, the recurrence of unrests reveals an underlying failure to address the root causes of numerous issues.


Regional OSCE Conference - Foreign Terrorist Fighters: Addressing Current Challenges

On 11 February, the BIC attended the opening of a two-day, high-level regional conference on challenges posed by foreign terrorist fighters in Vienna. The conference saw the presence of more than 400 participants from over 70 countries, including main organizers such as the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the OSCE, and Switzerland, in co-operation with Albania’s OSCE Chairmanship.
