About

This week the Brussels international Center for Research and Human Rights (BIC-RHR) participated in a conference held by the World Youth Alliance on the concept of Migration and Development: human dignity in the refugee crisis.

The Phoebus Project was invited to present in a session of good practices along with a group of other young innovators and researchers engaged in the field of migration management and integration. This session brought together individuals from across Europe who are engaged in the problem of preserving human dignity through the migration process.

A common theme amongst the presenters was the need for better education and messaging surrounding refugees and other forced migrants. This conference showed that there are changes coming in the way in which refugees and local residents will be invited to engage in the integration process.

In addition to providing a forum for these practices to be discussed the conference also hosted a number of leaders in the world of migration management, with representatives from UNHCR, IOM, the International Federation for Family Development and MEPs from the Committee on Women’s Rights, and the Committee on Foreign Affairs to name a few. These speakers reinforced the urgency which was felt by all of the conference attendees.

The World Youth Alliance aims to create a global coalition of young professions to advocate for human dignity and person-centred solutions. These values were reflected throughout the conference, and the Phoebus project was honoured to be included in such organization.
